Daily Journal Entry: October 11, 2003 -- Day 128 --

Rocky Mountain Rapture
Heading out of Bragg Creek I was aware of the huge day ahead of me. I was moderately familiar with some of the terrain I would be traveling on having ridden sections of this trail with my great friend and mentor Dan Libin. Dan was and is the reason I began to really understand off road biking, he was my Joda and he never steered me wrong, I would have to credit him along with my good pal Don Smith with instilling in me the very real skills necessary to pull off an endeavor like this. This are represents strictly mountain biking and hiking. I was having my gear forwarded to my home in Canmore. I set out of the foothill town of Bragg Creek, which is a gateway to Kananaskis Country, Alberta’s greatest asset. I headed out of the West Bragg Parking Lot headed for the Tom Snow trail heading west. The snow of the previous week was still in the mountains and it made difficult riding treacherous. I then got lost. With the snow, damage to trail signs by vandalism and my lack of confidence I decided to head back down into Bragg Creek. I then headed for the highway for the trip west toward Lac Des Arcs and the Heart Creek Trail head, which is where I would regain the trail for Canmore and the Goat Creek Trail into the beautiful town of Banff. The wind as usual was howling from the west, but I was in the mountains and it wasn’t long before crescent shaped Mount Yamnuska became my guide, I was really excited to be in the mountains and with each kilometer my enthusiasm continued to grow.
